Description

Schoenorchis fragrans

Schoenorchis fragrans is a true MINIATURE in the orchid world. Our introduction to this plant was by an older gentleman wearing it as a lapel pin on his suit at an orchid show. It was a mature plant in full splendorous bloom; and less than the size of a quarter!!! Though named for its fragrance, the flowers are so small that it’s most certainly NOT overpowering! When I put my nose right into a cluster of flowers, my reaction is “grape Koolaid”. No orchid grower can use the excuse that they’re out of space for this one.

You will receive a blooming sized plant mounted on natural cork.

The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew and the World Checklist of Vascular Plants states that “Schoenorchis comprises 23 species collectively distributed from the Himalayan region, southern India, and Sri Lanka to southern China and the Philippines, Thailand, south to Indonesia and east to New Guinea, Australia, and the Pacific islands including Samoa.” And yet, as of 6/25, Kew lists 31 “Accepted Species” in the genus Schoenorchis (no wonder there’s such confusion.)

We really like and enjoy growing growing them; many of which are miniatures. We currently have nine species available for sale.
