Description

Aerangis hariotiana

This is called Aerangis hariotiana, but many people don’t think of it as an Aerangis; it’s a rather new change taxonomically. Its previous name, Microterangis, means “small vessel” which suited it nicely. A key feature of several Microterangis is their beautifully colored, albeit small, flowers. This species is a neat little plant and a colorful “must-have”. They can be grown potted or plaqued. These are still commonly sold as Chamaeangis hariotiana too…so now it could be really confusing! Click here for culture information, flower close-ups and see how close we came to having an award-winning specimen!

Isobyl la Croix (author of the book Aerangis) states that Aerangis hildebrandtii closely resembles Aerangis hariotiana and may well not be distinct from it. If this is found to be the case, the name will be Aerangis hildebrandtii. When we had them blooming simultaneously, the difference we noticed was their fragrance; both were nice, but unique. Due to their similarities, we are currently growing our Aergs. hariotiana mounted and our Aergs. hildebrandtii potted (in unglazed terra cotta pots).

We are currently selling multi-growth divisions mounted on natural cork.
