Description
Renanthera bella
Renanthera bella is one of twenty-two currently recognized species in the genus Renanthera and remains relatively uncommon in cultivation. Native to Borneo, this species rewards growers with striking sprays of rich red flowers and an impressive growth habit.
Like many members of the genus, Renanthera bella can eventually become quite large and is often described as vine-like in growth. Given adequate warmth and space, plants develop into substantial specimens capable of producing spectacular floral displays.
We grow our renantheras in slightly less light than our cattleyas, where both are allowed to dry between waterings. Warm temperatures may not be essential, but ours perform very well.
Over the years, we’ve grown this species both mounted and potted. Our best success has come from starting young plants mounted, then either transferring them to larger mounts as they mature or moving them into pots when additional support becomes desirable.
For growers who enjoy species with dramatic flowers and an architectural growth habit, Renanthera bella is a rewarding and distinctive addition to the collection.
We are selling seedlings established on cork mounts.
