Description
Schoenorchis gemmata
Schoenorchis gemmata is a small Asian beauty that grows hanging from branches in humid forests. We’ve growing them in both little plastic pots and mounted on natural cork in intermediate light and they’ve grown very welll. My flower photos give a good closeup look, but look how they grow in situ – visit Schoenorchis gemmata – Vietnam Plant Data Center (BVNGroup) I think it always helps to see how they grow in nature! Like many of the Schoenorchis, the flowers are REALLY small, but these are also lightly fragrant!
You will receive a blooming sized plant mounted on natural cork.
The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew and the World Checklist of Vascular Plants states that “Schoenorchis comprises 23 species collectively distributed from the Himalayan region, southern India, and Sri Lanka to southern China and the Philippines, Thailand, south to Indonesia and east to New Guinea, Australia, and the Pacific islands including Samoa.” And yet, as of 6/25, Kew lists 31 “Accepted Species” in the genus Schoenorchis (no wonder there’s such confusion.)
We really like and enjoy growing growing them; many of which are miniatures. We currently have nine species available for sale.
