Description
Mormolyca ringens
Native to Mexico and Central America, these are delightful plants. They bloom off and on throughout the year and are quite easy to grow. We kept our big plant in a wooden basket for many years, but during an excessively hot summer didn’t keep it quite moist enough and much of it perished. We’re now growing them in plastic pots in Orchiata bark and they’re very happy!
If you “Google” this species, the topic of sexual mimicry [for pollination] comes up high on the list. Visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtDxDi4z2PA to watch confused male bees trying to mate with one of these flowers.
The blooming size division in a 3″ pot shown in Brenda’s hand is representative of what you’ll receive.
