Paphiopedilum
insigne Russell
This species
is native to Nepal and NE India and as you might guess, is one of the
cooler growing paphs. Though a vigorous grower in our intermediate to
warm greenhouse, we need to find a cool place (outside wall) in the fall
to encourage dependable blooms. When it gets that cool rest, WOW does
it put on a show! Its no wonder its been used so much in hybridizing.
Its a solid green, rather strap-leaved paph. and a common name for
it is The Splendid Paphiopedilum (pretty nice for a common
name, eh?).
