Laelia tenebrosa
     Native to Brazil, this species is great for those who love large-flowering orchids. It bears two to four large bronze and purple flowers in the summer. There’s some color variation but all the ones I’ve seen have an interesting “checkerboard” pattern on the sepals—one that can be seen with light behind the flower. The flowers are beautiful and they’re fragrant, too!
