Aerangis kotschyana - amazing long twisting nectaries

 Aerangis kotschyana
This is my personal favorite orchid in the world. It blooms reliably around Thanksgiving for us—and what a show! They are medium sized plants in the Aerangis genus. I understand that these grow in brighter, drier areas in nature, but ours grow and bloom beautifully in what I’d call intermediate light levels. The leaves in this picture are a Notylia hanging below it. Kotschyana’s leaves are outstanding, and nothing quite compares to the long twisting nectaries on the many flowers.

At last blooming one of our plants had 51 flowers on five inflorescenses. What a show!
